ATOKA, Okla. (KTEN) — The Oklahoma Broadband Office is working to improve access to high speed internet throughout the state with an expansion launched in Atoka County on Tuesday.
State and local officials broke ground on a $6.8 million investment bringing direct benefits to 180 homes and business.
The project aims to address the need for broadband access in rural Oklahoma to provide better accessibility to health care, education, and economic development.
“This is an exciting day for southeast Oklahoma,” said Oklahoma Broadband Office executive director Mike Sanders. “One of the biggest things that I think many may miss is this infrastructure build out is as important as what the electrification of the 1930s was, as well as the interstate highway build out of the 1950s.”
